Ten Thinking Mistakes: the most common logical and cognitive errors that people make in everyday life

(This lecture is a replacement for Russia and the West: The Long War)

Kit Barton’s talk will be a tour through the various bad habits that people exhibit in their decision-making.  Too often we mistakenly apply the thinking techniques that are appropriate for minor decisions to the most significant and consequential choices that we make in our lives.  By learning to recognise biases such as our desire to conform with others, our desire to believe that we already have the correct opinion, and our belief in our own exceptionality, we can learn to avoid making key decisions based on false assumptions or skewed evidence.

He will aim to improve our thinking and allow us to reach more accurate assessments of the world around us.

Kit Barton is Senior Lecturer in Leadership, Management and Ethics, Regent’s University London  He is an expert in the area of business ethics and management theory with a background in philosophy. He has taught these subjects for nearly twenty years in American, French and British universities. His current research interests are focused on business ethics, philosophy of management and personal identity.
