Carefully-curated programming and a lively discussion group

Imaginative programming and a monthly discussion group – Film Talk

HFS Season 2021-22 at a glance

For its 2021-22 season, the Highgate Film Society has specifically chosen to screen a selection of film classics – films which have stood the test of time, have been multiply-awarded, and which are among the best in their genre. This decision has been made for two reasons: firstly because there were, of course, very few film releases in 2020 and 2021 and the usual channels through which the committee members pick out their selection of new films to show were unavailable;  and also because we thought there would be some considerable and much-needed comfort and joy to be had in revisiting old favourites, or in discovering that ‘old’ films can be just as good, as entertaining and as thought-provoking as ‘new’ ones.   We hope you will enjoy our carefully-curated selection of classics, and we will very much look forward to seeing you at the screenings in the HLSI.

Seats need to be purchased through the website by 1pm on the day of the showing and cost £7 per person.   Unless otherwise stated, doors will open at 7.45, and the films will be shown at 8.00pm.  We will continue to show them under the most current government guidelines to make the booking of a seat easier, and to reassure film-goers that the necessary health and safety measures are in place. Everyone is welcome – you do not need to be a member to attend.

Please do also join us on Zoom at 5pm on the day after each screening to share your views on the film in our friendly and informal discussion group Film Talk.   If you would like to be sent invitations to the online Film Talk discussions, please email president@hlsi.net by 1pm on the day of the talk.
