HAYDN Divertimento in C major, Op.1/6
BEETHOVEN Quartet in C# minor, Op.131
SHOSTAKOVICH Quartet No. 12 in D-flat major, Op. 133

One of Britain’s most celebrated quartets, The Fitzwilliam String Quartet is in the middle of their 50th Anniversary tour. The FSQ gained an international reputation in the 70’s championing the quartets of Shostakovich. They met the composer, developed a fond relationship with him and performed the non-Russia premieres of his last three quartets at his personal invitation. They have gone on to win a closetful of awards and distinctions. While the interpretative intelligence of the FSQ has remained constant, only one of the founding members is still with the group, violist Alan George. In a programme ranging from Beethoven’s masterwork, his favorite quartet, to Shostakovich’s ground-breaking late quartet we will be treated to an embarrassment of (challenging) riches.

Tickets for this concert are £18 at the door/£15 in advance/£10 for students (on the door or in advance from the office, with student ID) . We suggest booking early as the concert is certain to sell out.
